Suggestion to the NFL following the recent world cup action
I have spent the past 3 weeks debating internally how I feel about the fact that so many games at the World Cup came down to penalties. I found myself thinking about the recent effort by the NHL to make for a more mono v mono solution to settling tied games. It was just random that this action was going on during MLBs mid season break including the home run derby, hmm I began to think. I then turned my attention to the gridiron, the good old NFL.
Who is the least important person on a football team 95% of the time? The place kicker. How much better is a football game when the place kicker (hardly sweating) trots on to the field and kicks the 52 yarder to win. So why not let more games end that way? Why not allow the place kicker to move up the food chain above the punter once and for all?
I have authored the following proposal to the NFL, prior to sending it I will leave it posted here for any and all to amend.
1) eliminate overtime... Football already is too much of a time constraint on Sunday.
2) ties shall be decided by uncontested field goals mono v mono
3) a snap and set are required
4) both teams will start at the 30 yard line and alternate kicks moving back 7 yards at a time
5) if a kicker from one team makes it from any yardage that the other kicker misses, that team wins.
6) simple-
any thoughts?
good luck, 'the guy'
